About

Physician · Musician · Academic · Creative

I grew up on the south shore of Long Island, within sight of the Great South Bay. Autumns meant running the back hills of Sunken Meadow State Park, with the occasional trip out to the far lighthouses at Robert Moses and Montauk Point, and the low hum of the city never far off.

The road since has wandered. I studied music, biology, and chemistry in Miami Shores, Florida; medicine in Grenada and Brooklyn; and radiology in Atlanta. I trained in interventional radiology, the field of image-guided, minimally invasive procedures, in Seattle, then returned to Atlanta to learn to perform them for infants and children.

Today I live in New York City, dividing my time between clinical work and artistic pursuits.

I am also a lifelong student of music. I studied piano and music theory alongside biology in college, played Haydn’s D major concerto as an undergraduate, and have written a symphony, chamber music, and an overture for chorus and orchestra. One piece, Lysine A, began as a gene: an experiment in turning the protein sequence of a bacterium into harmony.

Lately I’ve been working with AI to build small tools for learning harmony, counterpoint, and orchestration, and working on my own music compositions, all while spending too much time at the opera between cases.

Whatever the field, the pleasure is the same: taking simple things and working them, with care, into something larger.
